Different Kinds of Fruit by Kyle Lukoff is about a girl, Annabelle, who is figuring herself out, as she becomes friends with a non-binary person. She learns about her family past in the process.
The author’s writing made the characters feel real to me. My favorite character in the book was Bailey, because they were able to stand up for themselves and others when they needed to. I also really liked how some of the scenes that focused on the relationships had me at the edge of my seat.
One thing I didn’t love about the story is that one of the kids in Annabelle and Bailey’s class was kind of mean.
I really loved this book and would give 4.5 out of 5 stars. I really think you should read it, and now I’m going to read Kyle Lukoff’s other books.
